Challenges in joint place branding in rural regions
2013
The purpose of this article is to explore joint place branding in rural regions, focusing on cooperation between the various stakeholders involved and on the salient features of rural regions that are used in the place branding process. Branding is conceptualized as a social process where brand value is co-created by the stakeholders. Place branding is seen as a participative process, bringing stakeholders together with the aim to strengthen the identity of the place. The fundamental question is how to build long-term commitment in a group of key stakeholders. Many sources discuss place branding for large cities, but rural regions have received little attention. The process of place brandin…
Effects of inbound marketing communications on HEIs’ brand equity: the mediating role of the student’s decision-making process. An exploratory resear…
2016
ABSTRACTA context of increased competition between higher education institutions (HEIs) for attracting potential national and international students has led universities to implement marketing communication strategies. Those strategies which are used to some extent include, among others, interactive inbound marketing. The purpose of the present exploratory study is to identify how HEIs can develop to improve their image and awareness by using new interactive marketing communication tools mediated by the student’s decision-making process. To conduct our investigation, we used both a qualitative (seven semi-structured interviews) and a quantitative survey (n = 121) methodology. Based on data …

Role of Marketing and Technological Innovation on Satisfaction and Word of Mouth in Retailing
2017
Despite the importance of innovation in business performance, investigation into innovation in services is scanty and lacking consensus. In retailing, it is a topic that has been awakening considerable academic and business interest in recent years. In this study context, this work analyses innovation in retail experiences from two aspects—marketing innovation and technological innovation—to understand the role it exercises in satisfaction and subsequent recommendation. For that purpose, our objective is to investigate the direct and indirect influence of marketing and technological innovation on satisfaction and word of mouth through three core constructs: store image, consumer value, and …
Consumer-Generated Reviews on Social Media and Brand Relationship Outcomes in the Fast-Food Chain Industry
2017
A number of studies agree on the fact that social media users tend to trust more the contents created by other users than those generated by companies’ marketing departments or advertising agencies. However, little is known regarding whether social media can actually enhance brand trust and other brand relationship outcomes that are deemed critical to the hospitality marketing literature. This paper seeks to offer some important insight on this issue by examining the impact of consumer-generated reviews on social media on four main pillars of the relationship marketing paradigm, i.e., satisfaction, trust, commitment, and loyalty. The inter-relationship between brand outcomes is also examine…
Corporate social performance as antecedent of consumer's brand perception
2011
The purpose of this article is to develop a model that closely examines the consequences of social and environmental corporate action. This is suggested by an increasing need for accomplishing an integrative view on business activities and social aims – the so-called corporate social responsibility – especially in the current environmentally turbulent time and a rising socially conscious consumer population. But doing business is often associated with brand- or corporate misconduct as well. Hence, corporate social responsibility forms the positive component of corporate social performance (CSP), consequently a favorable brand- or company behavior. Corresponding, corporate social irresponsib…
Retail brand equity: a model based on its dimensions and effects
2013
International audience; Brand equity has been recognized as a key variable in both the academic and professional literature. This article aims to deepen the nature of the retailer equity construct and identify the variables that contribute to its formation, proposing an integrative model based on their dimensions and effects. From an empirical perspective, a survey is carried out with 300 consumers in three retailer categories, in order to analyze the relationships of the model. Due to the formative nature of two of the constructs, the analysis is developed through the partial least squares technique. From the analysis of the results, the importance of store image, perceived store value, an…
An Integrated Retailer Image and Brand Equity Framework : Re-examining, Extending, and Restructuring Retailer Brand Equity
2017
Retailers are amongst the world's strongest brands, but little is known about retailer brand equity. In spite of their extensive use, we argue that current operational models are too abstract for understanding the uniqueness of the retail industry and too simplistic to understand the interrelationships among the dimensions in the retailer brand equity building process. This study contributes to the existing and largely generic retailer equity frameworks in three ways: first, by incorporating retail specific dimensions from the retailer image literature; second, by re-examining and developing the structures and relationships between the dimensions of retailer equity by testing alternative st…
The impact of value co-creation on hotel brand equity and customer satisfaction
2019
Abstract Value co-creation with customers has emerged as a relevant topic at both academic and managerial level. Considering the positive outcomes derived from value co-creation, firms should learn how to properly manage this process which requires active customer involvement and this paper demonstrates that the level of customer participation (CP) depends to a large extent on their perception of how the hotel favours the process of value co-creation (CcV). Our model also proves the customer perception of the hotel's process of value co-creation has a positive impact on the hotel's brand equity (BE) whereas customer participation positively affects the customer's perceived value (PV). Addit…
